MTFRW President Shirley Herrin – 2012 to 2013

Shirley is a fifth generation Montanan, her ancestors having arrived in Helena just two months after the discovery of gold on Last Chance Gulch. She is a widow and the mother of five children, nine grandchildren and a great-grandson.

She has worked for various Montana State Departments throughout the years but her love has been the Montana Legislature, where she started working in 1963. She supervised the Senate Committee Secretaries for many sessions up until 2003.

She has been active in Republican politics for decades, serving on innumerable campaigns throughout the years. She has served as a Precinct Committeewoman and Vice Chair of the Lewis and Clark Republican Central Committee.

1988 Executive Director/Western Division of the Bush Quale “Victory ’88” Campaign.

1985-1988 – Director, 2nd Vice and 1st Vice President of Lewis & Clark Republican Women.

1989-1990 – President of Lewis and Clark Republican Women

1992- Executive Assistant to Lt. Governor Denny Rehberg

1993-1997 – Secretary of the Montana Federation of Republican Women

She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Shirley has served on the Montana Capitol Restoration Foundation since 1997 and served as the Secretary for the Montana History Center in their quest to obtain the Capital Hill Mall in Helena for a World Class Montana History Center. She also is a volunteer for the Montana Heritage Commission.

She serves as a Director on the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame Board and has served seven years as the Secretary of the Montana Saddle Clubs Association and sixteen years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Helena Trail Riders Saddle Club.

Shirley has served on the Board of Directors of the Society of the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers, as a Director, Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President.
