We Have Reached 100% Club Participation!!!

UPDATE FROM CHAIR: — Twelve large packages of socks and foot care products, as well as a few special items for the two females, have been sent by Priority mail to our 1st Platoon in Afghanistan.

A second Platoon has been adopted, also serving at a Forward Operating Base where the troops live in tents, and the ability to purchase anything is very limited. As soon as I receive addtional funds and/or donations , items will be purchased, packed and on their way to them.

Special thanks to Donna, Loretta, Bertie, Pat and Konnie of Stillwater County Republican Women who packed the boxes, and to Audrey, Carbon County Republican Women, who assisted with shopping for items needed to complete the packages.

THANK YOU LADIES!

Operation Foot Care

I am pleased to report that our MTFRW Executive Committee has approved a trial state-wide Caring for America Project, and has supported my selection of an Adopt-a-Platoon one time effort called “OPERATION FOOT CARE PATROL”.

OUR GOAL IS 100% Club participation. Publicity for this project is encouraged; do try for a Photo with an article and keep a copy for your 2010-2011 Club Caring for America Award Form.

We have been assigned 1st Platoon with the 230th Engineer Company (Vertical) which is made up of National Guard members from 5 states, including Montana. Their mission is to provide engineering and construction support throughout Regional Command East in Afghanistan. Our Platoon has 45 members, including 2 females.

High desert summer temperatures are extremely tough and in winter it’s cold and wet. Sending a clean pair of new socks, foot powder, anti-fungal cream, cooling cream, nail clippers, and/or athlete’s foot cream or lotion, will help our Troops serving our Nation know that YOU are helping in their mission as they serve far from home on our behalf.

Each Club is asked to provide: 4 pair, or more, of black crew socks; 4 pair, or more, of white athletic socks, assorted foot care products as listed above. OR: A minimum donation of $40.00 so that items can be purchased to complete the package(s) and cover shipping costs to our Platoon.

Item costs Examples: Costco has 10 pair white athletic socks at $12.99 and Athlete’s Foot Cream at $ 4.05. Wal-Mart has 6 pair of black crew socks at $7.00, toenail clippers at $.95 and foot powder at $5.68. Total of these items is $30.69.

Socks and Foot Care items or Checks should be sent to me as soon as possible. I hope to mail supplies to their APO address before October 1st. Please include a Card or Note of thanks and support to the Troops from your Club. Since some Clubs do not meet in the summer, a collection location could be set up, and members notified by newsletter OR email and telephone calls. County Fair Booths were mentioned as a drop off site or place for a fundraiser to cover costs.

Thank you for making this a successful project!
