Carbon County Republican Women (CCRW) met at Fort Rockvale Restaurant for lunch Wednesday, January 13.
President Resley invited those present to introduce himself or herself to our special guest, House District 60 Representative David Howard of Park City.
Representative Howard stressed the importance of voters volunteering time, prayer, and money. The Founding Fathers wrote America’s creed that we find in our Declaration of Independence, but it was the blood of Patriots who gave their lives so all men and women could be free. They gave us the Rule of Law, as opposed to the Rule of the King. Therefore, it is our privilege and duty as citizens and Representatives to guard these values for the next generation. We are fighting an internal cultural civil war and we cannot lose; if we do, we not only lose our identity, we will lose our freedom.
In answer to a question about the Otter Creek Coal Trust, Representative Howard stated one of the difficulties is Montana’s tax of development, which is more than double that of Wyoming.
For Americanism, Pat Plowman aired a reminder from Rush Limbaugh of the greatness of our Country in a time of need, most recently the Haitian earthquake where American humanitarian aid was immediate. Pat also shared photos of Haiti from the 1970s when she visited there several times while working for CARE-Medico in the Dominican Republic, the other two-thirds of the Island of Hispaniola. The influence of voodoo in what was once “the Jewel of France” is frustrating but effective missions, such as Mountain Maid Self-Help Project in the mountains near Port-au-Prince, are inspiring. A donation for this mission was taken. (Note: Mountain Maid Baptist Mission reports their hospital functioning with the help of Samaritan’s Purse, to whom the donation was sent.)
Fundraising was discussed and a Chair. will be appointed at the next meeting. CCRW plans to participate in the Community garage sale this summer. Amy Seymour shared thanks for care packages for the Women-to-Women project in Afganistan.
A sympathy card for the Family of Coreen Miller and flowers were discussed. A thank you letter from the Miller family was read.
