Grow Montana – Carbon County

Kevin Moore

Special guest for the July Luncheon was Kevin Moore, representing Grow Montana. Kevin also works with AERO, Alternature Energy Resource Organization, and volunteered for FoodCorp in Dillon where he helped UM Western buy more Montana-grown foods. The goal of Grow Montana is to help rebuild Montana’s food independence. According to Kevin Moore, 70 years ago more than 70% of Montana’s food was grown in Montana. That figure has now fallen to 10%. Montana is lacking small scale and independent food processing. Value added food in Montana, i.e. foods processed here, is much lower than surrounding states. In 2004, South Dakota’s value added food expenditure was 90%, Idaho’s was 80% and Montana’s was only 10%. In Montana there are great distances between markets, said Kevin Moore, but this is also true in surrounding states. An unfriendly business climate is also a factor. Grow Montana offers information, research, internet resources, networking lists, conference calls, projects and events attempting to grow Montana’s food businesses.

LCRW Float July 4 – LCRW/Pachyderms won 2nd prize in the float category in Polson’s Centennial 4th of July Parade. The float was historical with Abe Lincoln and the final words of the Gettysburg Address on the back and one of our veterans in his WW II white naval uniform (he could still get into it!) in the front flanked by the American and Montana flags and two flags honoring all the military services. LCRW and Pacyderm banners were on both sides of the bunting decorated sides. Candidate signs were attached to the bright red pick-up pulling it, and several candidates walked the route along with four of our members in Rehberg for Congress t-shirts handing out club information and Rehberg bumper stickers.

flags

Preschoolers made an American flag with their hands and feet. The hands are the stars, and the feet are the stripes. Elementary classes are studying the Star-Spangled Banner and American history. Photo sent to the Helena Independent Record:

This week, Cyndi Forbes, president of the Lewis & Clark Republican Women’s Club, presented three American flags to classrooms at First Lutheran School on 2231 East Broadway, as part of the club’s community Americanism project. Present are the teachers and their students receiving the flags and reviewing the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

stockings project

Liann Meyer from Montana Supporting Soldiers sent this message to our club. Thanks to all of you who helped make the Santa stockings, and also get the candy to fill them. The troops loved them! I hope to get more photos and messages from othertroops. Liann says that the 189th Montana National Guardsmen are in Iraq and should be coming home soon. Also, 1SG Wock says, We finally stopped flying for one afternoon long enough for me to get all of us in a room. I hope these pictures are sufficient. Sorry for the quality of a few of them but these guys are harder to keep still than third graders. Thanks again for all that you do. We really do appreciate everything that has been sent. I know it takes a lot of work and dedication. I hope you and all of the Montana Supporting Soldiers crew have a wonderful and blessed Holiday.

Notice the red Santa suits some of the guys are holding! Cyndi Forbes says that she is just so proud of everyone in the club for embracing this project to completion and even more proud of our American Soldiers, who are protecting us.

Carbon County Republican Women

Carbon County Carbon County Republican Women (CCRW) met at Fort Rockvale Restaurant for lunch Wednesday, January 13.

President Resley invited those present to introduce himself or herself to our special guest, House District 60 Representative David Howard of Park City.

Representative Howard stressed the importance of voters volunteering time, prayer, and money. The Founding Fathers wrote America’s creed that we find in our Declaration of Independence, but it was the blood of Patriots who gave their lives so all men and women could be free. They gave us the Rule of Law, as opposed to the Rule of the King. Therefore, it is our privilege and duty as citizens and Representatives to guard these values for the next generation. We are fighting an internal cultural civil war and we cannot lose; if we do, we not only lose our identity, we will lose our freedom.

Flathead Country Republican Women

As part of their involvement with the Mamie Eisenhower Literary Program, Flathead County Republican Women have purchased 20 copies of the book, If the Walls Could Talk, by Jane O’Conner. The book tells humorous (and sometimes scandalous) stories about our former United States Presidents and their families. As they have done in the past several years, the Republican women distributed books to 20 elementary schools in Flathead County.
